Mahila Atmanirbhar Abhiyan (MAA) is a grassroots women's empowerment initiative committed to building a society where women are informed, skilled, financially aware, economically independent, socially confident and empowered to shape their own future.
Led by Dr. Rina Routray, Chairperson, MAA works with a clear understanding that empowerment cannot remain confined to conferences, policies or awareness campaigns. It must reach the woman at the grassroots - the woman who needs information, opportunity, skills, financial knowledge, market access and a supportive ecosystem to transform her life.
MAA therefore follows an action-oriented, grassroots-to-growth approach, connecting awareness with opportunity and opportunity with sustainable empowerment.
Atmanirbharta begins with awareness. When a woman understands her rights, resources and opportunities, she gains the power to make informed decisions.
"Atmanirbharta begins with awareness, grows through capability and becomes meaningful when a woman gains the confidence and resources to make her own decisions."
Empowerment should not stop at awareness. It must reach the hands, homes, enterprises and communities of women - and create lasting change.
"Empowerment should not stop at awareness. It should reach the hands, homes, enterprises and communities of women - and create lasting change."
A financially independent woman gains greater confidence to participate in decisions affecting her family and community. That is the impact MAA seeks to create.

Guiding principles that drive our mission of empowerment.
To create an inclusive ecosystem in which every woman has the knowledge, skills, confidence, resources and opportunities to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the development of her family, community and society.
MAA seeks to transform women from beneficiaries into active participants, entrepreneurs, leaders and change-makers. We work to bridge the gap between awareness and action, between knowledge and opportunity, between potential and achievement.
Building an ecosystem of sustainable empowerment for women.
Build financial and digital awareness among women so they can manage and multiply their resources effectively.
Promote entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods, encouraging women-led enterprises to thrive in local and national markets.
Develop employable and market-oriented skills that enable women to adapt to changing markets and build sustainable careers.
Connect women with government schemes, financial institutions, markets and employment opportunities for lasting impact.
Strengthen rural and grassroots women through capacity building, mentorship and continuous learning programmes.
Promote leadership, confidence and informed decision-making through a strong network of mutual support and collaboration.
This is the core transformation pathway of MAA — a structured journey from awareness to sustainable independence.
A woman who learns how to manage her money becomes financially aware. A woman who develops a skill gains earning potential. A woman who receives entrepreneurial guidance can build an enterprise. A woman who gains market access can expand her income. And a financially independent woman gains greater confidence to participate in decisions affecting her family and community.
